Impact / Valspar + Lowe’s

From color uncertainty
to a confident order.

I created an in-store digital kiosk that helped shoppers move through one of the hardest parts of a paint project—choosing the right color—and complete their purchase without breaking the experience.

The challenge

Make an emotional, high-friction decision easier

Paint shoppers face an unusually difficult purchase decision. A small color chip has to become a whole room in the customer’s imagination, while differences in light, furnishings, and adjacent colors make confidence hard to achieve. In store, a wall of choices could create more uncertainty rather than clarity.

The opportunity was to make digital useful at the exact moment of decision: not as a separate campaign or destination, but as part of the retail journey.

The experience

One guided journey from inspiration to fulfillment

The kiosk let customers browse Valspar colors, see them applied across different rooms, and fine-tune a selection when it was close but not quite right. The experience translated a vast physical assortment into an approachable, visual path that supported exploration without losing momentum.

Once the customer made a decision, the kiosk placed the paint order directly into the store workflow. The order was prepared at the paint desk shortly afterward—connecting digital discovery, product configuration, and physical fulfillment in one continuous experience.

The impact

A meaningful step forward for omnichannel commerce

The kiosk advanced Valspar’s digital strategy at Lowe’s by moving digital from an informational layer to a transaction-enabled part of the store experience. It gave customers greater confidence in a complex decision while giving the retailer a clearer bridge between inspiration and fulfillment.

More broadly, the project demonstrated how digital could add value inside a physical retail environment: simplify choice, visualize the product in context, preserve customer momentum, and connect the experience directly to store operations.
